New Slow Down Traffic Safety Video

When it comes to inattentive driving, a tragedy can happen in the blink of an eye

But the devastating impacts will last a lifetime.

In 2024 alone, 24 police officers in the United States were struck & killed by passing motorists while working on the road. This is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. Our hearts & prayers go out to these fallen officers’ family, friends & colleagues.

In honour of these officers – and the thousands of other first responders (police, fire, EMS & tow truck drivers) who have been killed or injured on the road over the years – the JPMF has created another powerful traffic safety video urging motorists to slow down when passing first responders working on the road – and give them room to work. Because everyone has the right to make it home safely after work.

A big shout out of thanks to Sarah Hourihan, the JPMF’s Safety Campaign Manager, for making this poignant video.

Not sure about what to do when you are approaching an emergency scene on the road?

About the JPMF

The JPMF was started shortly after the death of Calgary Police Constable John Petropoulos on Sept 29th, 2000. John was investigating a break and enter complaint when he stepped through a false ceiling, fell nine feet into the lunchroom below and died of a brain injury. There was no safety railing to warn him of the danger; the complaint turned out to be a false alarm.

John was 32.

The JPMF is a registered Canadian charity that raises public awareness about workplace safety issues and educates people about why & how to ensure their workplaces and the roads are safer for everyone, including emergency responders. For further information, please visit jpmf.ca.
